Rationale for GreenSun Micronutrients

Overview: The importance of plant macronutrients, NPKS, is well established. How important are micronutrients for healthy plant growth and superior crop yields. Micronutrients are an important part of total soil nutrition and good agronomic programs have included addition of micros to fertilizer formulations for many years.

The Form of the Micronutrient: The most common and economic form of the various micronutrients is the oxide. All granular micronutrient products originate from the oxide form, with the level of solubility dependent on the amount of sulfuric acid reacted with the oxides in the manufacturing process. In most cases, the level of solubility in micronutrients are direct relations to cost. The higher solubility, the higher the cost, the lower solubility, the lower the cost. This presents the micronutrient industry with 2 challenges. The first is the solubility, or lack of it in the case of the oxides. Low solubility inhibits passage of the micronutrient from the fertilizer to the plant. The second is the high cost soluble products.

Explanation of Concept: The development of GreenSun Micronutrients began with the theory of taking an extremely fine metal oxide particles, and incorporating them into a conversion matrix to provide uniform distribution and quick conversion to the plant available sulfate form.

GreenSun Micronutrients are a granular fertilizer made up of thousands of extremely fine metal oxide particles (300 mesh or smaller) per pastille (split pea fertilizer granule). Swelling agents fracture the pastille and disperse the particles when it comes into contact with soil moisture. As the particles disperse, the micronutrients undergo a controlled release conversion from insoluble oxide forms to the soluble, plant-available sulfate forms.

The matrix contains a special sulfur/clay blend that not only quickly degrades and disperses, but also enhances the rate at which the soil microbes (thiobacilli) oxidize the sulfur to sulfuric acid. Since this sulfuric acid is produced in the immediate vicinity of the micronutrient oxides, they react together to convert to plant available metal sulfates - in a conversion that happens quickly and throughout the growing season.
